Swimming is one of the best exercises in the world for getting fit. The only problem is using a fitness tracker in conjunction with swimming. There are many benefits to being able to track your exercise when you are in the pool (or somewhere outdoorsy like a lake or the ocean). With advances in technology, it is now possible to use modern fitness trackers to do just that. With a waterproof tracker, you can get the best out of your workout.
A fitness tracker gives you goals; you have something to work towards. A fitness tracker gives you motivation as you power through the water. A fitness tracker does exactly what the name suggests: it tracks your fitness. It helps you to plan your training and keeps you accountable to your goals.
We have searched the web for the best fitness trackers out there, especially the ones which can be used in and around the water. We were pleasantly surprised at what we found. As always, careful consideration went into our choices. So, what helped us make our choice?
You want a tracker to be used in the water; that means that you want it to be waterproof. The IP ratings tell you how waterproof a device is. The ratings are shown below:
- IPX0: no protection at all
- IPX1: some protection against dripping water
- IPX2: more protection from dripping water
- IPX3: protection from sprayed water
- IPX4: protection from splashed water
- IPX5: protection from projected water
- IPX6: protection from strong jets of water
- IPX7: protection from immersion (1 meter for 30 minutes)
- IPX8: better protection from immersion (defined by the manufacturer)
When it comes to swimming with a device, you need one which is at least IP6 or IPX7, and more commonly IPX8. Anything less than that and you will not be able to go into the water with your device.
Most waterproof swim trackers are also rated for atmospheric pressure. This will tell you how deep you can go with your fitness tracker. Before you purchase a device, think about the type of swimming that you want to do. Most durable swim trackers are rated at 5ATM which means you can dive down to 50m. This will be enough for most people’s needs, but if you need to do some deep sea diving, then you may want to look for higher ratings.
Depending on how you want to use your device, you may want to opt for one with a screen. If you want to track your laps when you are in the water or be able to manipulate the device, then a screen could be essential. The more you want to do, the bigger and brighter you are going to want the screen to be. If you only want your data after you have completed your swim, then a small and compact device with no screen will be fine.
If you are wearing a fitness tracker in the water, then you may want to think about how it looks out of the water. Are you going to wear it all of the time? Do you want something which doubles as a watch and you can keep on your wrist permanently? Many fitness trackers can be for multiple purposes, and we kept this in mind when selecting the best swimming trackers out there. The ones on our list do a great job while looking great too.
How serious a swimmer are you? There is no point in shelling out for an expensive device if you are not going to use all of the features. Swimming trackers vary from simple devices to powerful ones. The more you want to do under the water, the more powerful a tracker you will need.
When it comes to durable wearables, the cost is always going to be slightly more than non-durable items. There is a reason for this. Durable and rugged devices last longer and do not break down as easily. When we went looking for the best swimming trackers, we wanted something which would get the job done, stand the test of time, and be affordable. The trackers on our list do exactly that. You may have to spend a little more initially, but you are going to save yourself from spending later. You are going to save yourself from a lot of headaches too.

This is a great wearable which will look stylish on your wrist while still giving you a lot of functionality.
The screen is only 0.96 inches which gives enough space for you to read all of the data while being small enough to fit seamlessly onto your wrist. The smaller profile keeps it out of harm’s way and keeps it intact. The screen may be small, but it is colorful and high-definition. A durable swim tracker that will last you a long time.
This wearable will help you track your swimming regime but will also do so much more. Letsfit Fitness Tracker
Waterproof rating: IP68 – can be submerged under the water but not to depths
A durable fitness tracker with a screen that seamlessly blends into the strap. Having one continuous strap means that there are no weak points which will split or break with extended use. This is a fitness tracker which you can wear all of the time. You can even take it into the shower with you.
This tracker is for so much more than just swimming. The device can track up to 14 sports at the same time. The intelligent tracker will track your fitness even when you are not. The rugged wearable will track the number of steps you take along with how far you have walked. You will be able to see how long you have been active for, how many calories you have burned, and your total distance traveled.
The device will also track your sleep (and not in a creepy way). The device will wake you up with a silent vibrating alarm. A nicer way to wake when compared to a traditional alarm, and one which will wake you without waking the others in the room.
With this device, you can also pair it with your phone and see incoming texts and calls. You will never miss a social media notification again. The wearable is not compatible with every phone out there so be sure to check which ones are compatible before purchasing.
A durable wearable which will last you a long time.
Ulvench Fitness Tracker

A lot of wearables follow the same design, and this one is no different. The screen blends seamlessly into the strap, giving it similar durability to other devices on our list. We like this design where there are no weak points in the strap, especially when you are using the device in the water a lot. This design also comes in different colors so you can choose the color which matches you.
You can use this wearable under the water and still use the functionality too. You can control a remote camera with this device which is ideal if you want to capture your dive while wearing this device. Connect through Bluetooth to take advantage of the full fictionality of the device to accept or refuse calls, see when you get a text, use reminders, and more.
The built-in USB plug makes it easy to charge, and a single charge will give you seven days of battery life. When you have it fully charged, take full advantage of the functionality and track up to fourteen different sports at the same time. You can swim, shoot hoops, do yoga, and more; tracking them all.
